Senior Friendly Vacation Rental - Kolkata

There is a great sense of pride when you are able to execute your day as per your wish.

In today's world, there are many couples who are long term empty nesters. They are part of the grand-parents forum. With better healthcare and proper lifestyle maintenance these folks are still travelling the world at their own pace.

When it comes to travelling in the silver years, it is mostly nostalgia, family-bonding, assured comfort that makes them go around.

Kolkata is one such city, that is timeless. There are many folks who have left the city since1960-70s but keep coming back to get a vibe check on their roots. They look for home like accommodation, where they can peacefully spend some time independently, meet with their friends and relatives and go back to their current residents with memories to last them for a year or two.

Personally, I've also been born and brought up in the city but left due to work close to two decades now. I share the nostalgia and realize how a home away from home is a best option for stays that last more than a week.

I've decided to let out my home as a short term rental to such guests, till the time I retire from active work and settle back in Kolkata.

This south Kolkata apartment can be rented from airbnb portal at a very reasonable cost, where you can also have your own house-help, cleaner and parking space at an additional charge.

If this is something you are looking for, do check out the details in my other blog 'restful rooms'.

Spread the word with your friends and family.

Cyber Fraud - 11 Sep 2025

 Glori Mall digital marketing

https://gsi.lol/user.php

They called and asked to create telegram account.

Day 1: They asked for my bank details. Gave tasks to add items in Flipkart site. After every set of 3 tasks within 30 or 60 minutes they paid Rs180 ( 60 per click). 6 such payments received on 10-9-2025. All from different personal account.

Day 2: Started with same kind of task. Then for each set of 3 tasks, they have 2 Flipkart task as before but the third task was commission basis for testing and upcoming ecommerce platform with real data.
They asked to pay 1500 and then another 500. Made me purchase 2 different items from their website. They paid me back 2400 ( 20% commission and refund). By then another set of 3 tasks for Flipkart site was also completed so they paid Rs. 360.

Again they gave set of 2+1 task. Where 12th task ( set 10, 11, 12) was commission basis.
I did not pay first. Then they released tasks 13, 14, 15 where items had to be added to cart in Flipkart site. When I asked for 180 payment, they told I had to complete task 12 - commission based task to get paid.

I opted for the least amount 2900. Which they told they'll refund with commission.
This time they took 2900, 9900 and 28000. Made us buy products from fake? ecommerce website. For 28000, they gave vague instructions to buy 2 products worth 14000.

Then they informed that I bought 1 item, so refund cannot be generated. I now bought another piece of same item worth 14000 from their website.

When asked for refund....  they refused and asked for 59000Rs as a repair order in order to get full refund.

I noticed that the money they are asking is more than double of what they are paying out and also I ran out of funds.

They refused to refund me 2900+9900+28000 =40800, unless further payment of 59000.

Day 3:
I have raised complaint with NPCI for reversal of 4 transactions

  1. CN525516536672
  2. CN525564625432
  3. CN525580901646
  4. CN525565774251
The cyber crime reporting portal is not working.

My observation and investigations after the incident:

1. The initial call came from +917736023312. This number has been traced to Delhi, but they claimed to be from Mumbai

2. They used Telegram channels for communication. I was not able to download the chat, but managed some screen-print, where they asked to pay exorbitant amount of money

3.  Finally they asked for more money and I did not pay any further. So they did not refund my 40800 that I paid through UPI. I have raised complaints on NPCI for reversal of 4 transaction.
CN525516536672 - 28000 Rs
CN525564625432 - 9900 Rs
CN525580901646 - 1400 Rs
CN525565774251 - 1500 Rs

4. It is a mix of fraudulent job + fraudulent ecommerce testing in the name of Flipkart and finally their dummy website https://gsi.lol/user.php . I was unable to find the IP address of this site. I was paying in INR but they were showing same amount in Pesos in their website

5. To add to the irony, the cyber crime reporting portal from Government is inconsistent and is not allowing me to register a new complaint
Finally raised cyber fraud complaint 21609250046052. Let's see how it goes.

My first Vande Bharat experience

Writing this post as I sit in NJP HWH Vande Bharat express on 27th April 2025.

Having heard about this train so much it was finally our turn to board it.  Here is my honest review from the journey so far.

Pros:
1) The train looks fantastic from the exterior.
2) Attention and timelines so far are quite good.
3) The interiors resemble a flight, the over head luggage space is quite big.
5) Toilets are a major upliftment. Impressed to see automatic flush, soap dispensers and hand dryers in an Indian train.
Cons:
1) The normal chair cars are okay. Sometimes it feels cramped when it is fully packed in a holiday season.
2) I've personally enjoyed a Shatabdi express train ride over this.
3) The body and build is like a bullet train but without the actual experience. Runs like a superfast but charges and fees are like bullet.
4) This experience is neither an Indigo flight ( the aspiration) nor a memorable irctc train ride that one can fondly wish to take again.
5) It is more hyped than the actual
experience.

Verdict:
Stick to the glorious time tested prestigious Shatabdi / rajdhani / laalbagh express / Darjeeling Mail if you take a train ride once in a while to experience irctc hospitality.

Take a Vande Bharat if you want to have a flight like business travel if you want to save some money & be more eco friendly.

Mumbai beckons - Part 2

We visited India's city of Dreams, Mumbai over the Dusshera celebrations in October. You can get a glimpse of our first three days here.

Day 4 - This day was dedicated to a bit of indulgence. Went for some artisanal bakery items and great coffee at Suchali's. Next we checked out from our cute little airbnb and went to visit Jio World Drive. It was a great experience to see a relatively empty mall as it was a weekday. It had some great international brands and a a very exquisite food court. The decor was very tastefully done. We stopped and spend some time at the apple store and then bid adieu. Next we checked into our hotel Sun n Sand by the Juhu beach. It had a very calming effect and the service was as expected from a reputed hotel. The room was spacious and the in-room dining  experience was great. In the afternoon we walked to the Juhu beach to see the sunset had some beach side delicacies.   Late in the evening we ventured out to sample some Mumbai famous vada-pav. We called it a night after a scrumptious dinner at Alfredo's.

Day 5 - After a great night's sleep, we headed to the breakfast buffet at Aqua Sun n Sand. They had a great spread that included delicacies from all around the world. I thoroughly enjoyed the egg benedict that the chefs prepared from the live counter. As an added bonus, I also got to meet some Bollywood actors at the breakfast table. Next we headed to Juhu Iskcon temple for aarti and Bhog. Well, we came to an end of our 4 day gateway and headed back to airport to catch our return flight.

Mumbai beckons

ipsita_be

We decided to travel to Mumbai during Durga Puja holidays. I was visiting Mumbai for the first time as an adult. It was a quickly planned short trip, that included pandal scouting, celebrity spotting , day outs, cafe hangouts, beaches, ferries as well as some work!

Day 1 - We reached around 6 pm and checked in to our airbnb at  Bandra. Witnessed a very well planned interiors of a small 1BHK. Space is crazy small but it had everything ( mostly from IKEA) that's required for a comfortable stay. Had a pit stop at Punjab Lassi House and headed to Bandra Durga Puja. Enjoyed a bit of dhunuchi naach, followed by baul songs. Gorged on some lip smacking sweets (mishti) and had Mumbai style paanipoori for dinner. It was yummy!! Too tired for the night and we crashed.

Day 2 – We started early morning towards Bandra fort only to find it closed for next six months. Moving on, we spotted actor Shah Rukh Khan’s residence, Salman Khans apartment right opposite to Bandra Band stand. We took a sea side stroll and made our way back to Boojee café for breakfast. We went to Siddhi Vinayak temple, followed by celebrity backed Puja in North Bombay and making a stop at Ramakrishna Mission Math, Khar. Had some great pav-bhaaji at Khao-piyo before enjoying a sunset at joggers park. In the evening went street shopping to Linking Road and had great dinner at Khow Chow restaurant.

Day 3 - It was Dusserra, and we headed to Gateway of India after having a Mumbaikar's breakfast at Goodluck cafe. We took a ferry ride to Elephanta caves and spent the afternoon marveling at the sculptures. Evening we headed to the iconic Leopold cafe for some Mumbai masala sandwich. Enjoyed a cool breezy evening by Nariman point and witnessed how the skyline and queens necklace road glittered up. For dinner we went to Fresh catch by Francis, and it was worth the one hour wait. It was a long and tiring but a very enjoyable day.

Day 4 & 5 - coming soon.........

Impromptu trip to Coorg

It was a Friday morning, before the workday began contemplation for the weekend was a routine.
It was decided that it'll be a breakfast out. Now the main question to be answered was where? There were options like a popular south Indian restaurant within a kilometer from residence, a drive to the famous lokaruchi Kamath on Mysore road.
Suddenly recalled our friend's suggestion " It's been a while we haven't had a weekend trip". That's it. Immediately we rang her to check if they were game.
We decided on Coorg. Now the task was whether we'll manage to get a round trip cab. We decided to book for accommodation on reaching.
We placed a booking for  round trip Innova AC and going by our recent experiences with call drivers and can we were ready for rejection. However, since nothing is over till its over we began to wait for a callback.
Our friend called in the afternoon for status and we informed that the waiting was still ON. Finally around 5.30 pm we received a call from our cab provider and the cab was finalized. The driver also intimated that these days Coorg is usually full during the weekend so it is better we book for accommodation before the start. Our friend and we immediately managed to join a conference even on a busy workday and we made the hotel booking. We booked a quaint resort called 'Brook Stone Villas' from agoda.com. Now we were all set for the trip.

Saturday 6 am my friend and her dad got picked up. We were also ready , and got picked up by 6.30 am. We knew we had a 6 - 7 hours drive before we reached Kushalnagar.

7 a.m - Tea break from a small ubiquitous tea stall on ORR
We took NICE road to reach towards Mysore road. There was very high  and slow moving traffic in Mysore road due to ongoing road development. At around 8.30 we took a pit-stop for breakfast at A2B on Mysore road.

The drive was taking us longer than expected, but we were enjoying the beautiful green roads and were stopping in between for some or other refreshments. Our next stop was for some tender coconut and we too a stop amid the lush green sugar cane fields.

The drive continued and we entered the Tibetan camp at Bylakuppe. It was almost 1.15 pm when we finally reached the Namdroling Monastery also know as 'Golden Temple' colloquially. As soon as we were about to disembark from our cab, it started pouring. We had to buy an umbrella to begin our site seeing. We spent almost an hour in the golden temple compound and had a plate of piping hot momos at the eatery run by the monks before we moved on.

We drove a little further and finally settled on Minister's Court restaurant for our lunch. We ordered chicken lollypop, rice, fish curry, egg fried rice and fed ourselves to heart's content.  It was good to see other tourist vehicle also parked in the area as this restaurant  was far from the populated tourist area.

We made a move towards Coorg now. The drive became more scenic as we crossed the beautiful winding roads towards Madhikeri. We decided to check-in to our resort and then take a call if we wanted to visit any other places. The road to our resort was hidden in greens and we moved at a very slow pace as the road was in shambles and we were scared if our car would give up. It was a very scenic route though as we moved through the coffee plantations scattered with blooming hibiscus. We reached at our resort at last and it was a very calming and quaint place. We were instantly felt relief after a long day of travel.
The check-in was quick.  There was no network signal available at the place but this were better once we got access to wi-fi. We ourselves had to carry our bags to first floor. It will be a disadvantage if you have senior citizens travelling or if you are carrying a lot of bags.  We got two adjacent rooms. The rooms were clean warm and inviting. Each room had an attached balcony with a sit out that looked out to the mountains at the back.

We decided to stay back at the resort and enjoy the property. This property has 11 guest rooms a small dining area and a great surrounding. If you walk towards the back side, you'd see the multiple hues of green around and the floating clouds. Since we visited during monsoon the mud roads became slippery while it was incessantly drizzling. We had 2 rounds of tea and pakoras for our evening snacks around 5 pm. We ordered for our dinner and took the rest of the evening for rest.  We had chapati, alu-gobi and Coorg special pork curry for dinner. All the preparations were very tasty. Kitchen and restaurant service was quite impressive. It continued to rain through out the night and we slept with natural cricket chirping all around us. It was an experience I never had in the past.

Sunday we woke up around 6.30 a.m. We wanted to visit the back side of the property to explore the foot-hills but due to rains through out the night the road became very sludgy. Also, the staff informed that there could be leeches around, so better not step out to the woods. We decided to explore the metalled road. It was surrounded by coffee plantation, hibiscus tree, there was a mango tree,  guava tree, a wax apple ( jamrul) tree. There were date palms scattered here and there too. We came to know the area had both coffee and pepper plantations but we could not recognize a pepper plant.

We came back to room and prepared hot tea/coffee and enjoyed the natural beauty of the place for some more time. It was checkout day for us, so we got ready and ready and headed to the dining area for complimentary breakfast. There was milk, corn flakes, idli-sambhar- chutney, upma, bread butter, tea, coffee, poori-sabzi on the buffet. Eggs for breakfast were available on payment. Food was again great at this place.  The property had 2 dogs and they always followed us whenever we stepped out. It was a very enjoyable experience.

We checked out from the resort at 10 am and moved towards center of the town for some spice and souvenir shopping. Then onwards we moved towards Abbey fall. To see the waterfall we had to climb down few steps, but the descent was worth it. The waterfall was at its full glory and it was filled with tourist. However, we managed to enjoy a while there and click some nice pictures.

Our next and final stop was Raja seat. It is a very picturesque and well maintained garden in Coorg. The serenity and beauty of this place is just unparalleled. The different hues of green and the panoramic view from this place is worth a few repeats. We stayed here for around 30 minutes but had to cut short due to a heavy spell of rain.

We had noticed few nice Tibetan food joints in Bylakuppe the previous day so decided to visit the place for lunch on our return. Unfortunately the food joint whose map & google rating we were following didn't have seating capacity so we settled for the place bang opposite to that. While the service was good the food was just okay.

We continued to drive for next 7 - 8 hours and again faced a lot of traffic in Mysore road. We took a tea break in A2B food court on the way and reached Bangalore around 10 pm. We were very tired from the long drive but were glad to be home to catch a good night's sleep  before the work week began.

Even though we travelled for very log hours but this unplanned trip was a great way to break the monotony of regular life. Monsoons made the places very vibrant and serene and it turned out to be a good travel experience overall. Can't wait to start the next trip!! 🙏

Restful rooms - a vacation rental in South Kolkata
